Mass Distraction

While The Man is away kids and I will play

Back in December, Antonio came home with a copy of Charolette's Web checked out from his Kindergarten teacher.
A few nights a week we read a chapter, kinda dee-dallying through it.
Honestly, I wasn't so excited to read it, because the end is so sad.

Months have paseed, and it wasn't until we got to the part about getting ready for the fair that Antonio started to really get into the story. I was DREADING this, because, although Wilbur ends up alright, his dear spider friend does not.

Friday we read up to The Chapter.
Sunday I rallied emotional self up for the task ahead, storytime.
We snuggle up on his bed, and I begin to read and I got a little confused, because everyone in the story was already sad and Charolotte was being spoken of in past tense.

As I'm reading, I begin to get what happened.
The Man and I had a date the night before.
So, I ask him, "Antonio, did Brittny read to you last night?"
He said she did.
I asked him how he felt about the last chapter, with Charlotte dying. Was he sad?
He said so matter of factly, "Things pass mom, she was old."

Hm.

We continued on and read about Charlotte's 514 children in the egg sac, and her grand children and great-grandchildren. After finishing the story we talked a little more about the baby spiders, but that was about it.

After thinking about it for a little while, it seems Brittny was the best person to read that chapter. It's not Antonio I needed to be concerned about after all, I was the softie.
